This summer, I am focusing on being MORE present with my own two children. I find as a working mom and business owner I can easily get caught up in my work tasks and lose my sense of work/life balance. I guess that happens when one is passionate about their profession.
At the same time, I know that childhood is a short season and that I need to prioritize (now!) and be more mindful with my children and living in the moment. As a planner, that is difficult for me. BUT I have personally found a happy medium, as my friend & mompreneur at Denise Williams Photography calls it, a “A-HA” moment. I have discovered that I need to make time! I have officially created a weekly calendar that allows me to schedule in all of the things I want to do for both work and play! Some people can’t live by a schedule, and that’s O-K! I find that it fits my planner personality and makes me feel more “together.”
But… It doesn’t quite jive with whole in-the-moment-zen-like process that I am working towards! So, I have determined that one afternoon a week my boys will choose a “learning through a fun experience.” You see, my two boys are the ones that created the 25 fun summer activities in my previous post.
My A-HA is living in the moment while prioritizing what is important and necessary. For me personally it falls in a few basic categories such as family, business, working out, meal prep, and learning lab (aka refrain from the summer brain drain- I can’t help it.. it’s the educator in me!). All the other stuff is not urgent or necessary.
There are some people that won’t need to go through my process of using a calendar to will get to the same result (and I am clearly green with envy), while others may need to find another approach that works for them. I want everyone to reach the balance that I am working towards achieving. To help in this pursuit, I will be sharing some fantastic articles by some of my favorite bloggers in my post next week and maybe they will help you reach your “A-HA” moment!
Are you like me and you love a good calendar to help you schedule your time? I found this fantastic (and so appealing to my visual self) calendar that works for me at I Heart Organizing. I give her a big “high” five for helping me get organized this summer. If you also like her very cute calendar check our her website HERE. If you are an organizer, like myself, you will really enjoy surfing her site too!
