As our kids head back-to-school it means one thing…the return of homework! Whether delightful, or dreadful, homework time can leave some of us wanting to pull our hair out.
Sometimes you are in the homework groove with your little one, when all of a sudden, you get up to grab another pencil and boom, the focused student you just left now seems fidgety. Losing momentum and taking a break even for a few seconds, can be a challenge for some of our little students. Okay, even for some adults as well.
A few years ago a my child’s preschool teacher, and momma to a TS graduate, introduced me to the homework caddy. What a DIFFERENCE it has made! A homework caddy is a great little bucket where you keep all of the supplies you need in one convenient, portable place. Who doesn’t love their own little desk in a box?
I found this small caddy recently in the Dollar Spot at Target. You can also find larger caddies at most local craft stores. It also can be fun to let your kids decorate their caddy with stickers, etc. Being part of the process really helps out!
When gathering supplies, think about what your student needs. In “momspeak” think about what you are always searching for when it’s homework time. Do they cut and glue frequently for homework? Do you need a bigger eraser? More sharpened pencils? Add whatever YOU need to make your caddy function for your family! Some families have one caddy per child, as their needs may differ and in this house it minimizes that disagreements about who is using what.
Once you have gathered your supplies, put everything together in your caddy and enjoy! Let us know how it works out for you on our facebook page. Here is to another amazing, homework happy, school year!!
